Syngenta, a Swiss company with its U.S. headquarters in Minneapolis, sells seed corn. The lawsuits allege that Syngenta knowingly released a corn variety called Agrisure Viptera before its MIR 162 traits against pests such as corn borer and rootworm were approved in China. The National Grain and Feed Association estimated the U.S. corn industry suffered a $2.9 billion loss because of the market rejections caused by the premature release of MIR 162.
